Prof. Griesinger, Dean of the Interior Design Department of AIU is a professional Architect specializing in Interior Design and Interior Architecture. After graduation he worked for several years as architect and interior designer with international design firms such as Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. He set up his own design firm 15 years ago when he won a competition to redesign a major part of the German headquarters of SEL ALCATEL in Berlin, Germany.
He has taught at the Masters course 'The Conservation of Gardens Landscapes and Sites' at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London where he was tutor for the segment 'Form and Style'. In this capacity he also organized International Symposia and Excursions fro groups of professionals. Professor Griesinger also taught design history courses at Birkbeck College, University of London, at the Faculty of Continuing Education.
Professor Griesinger believes that in order to stimulate the students' interest in the different aspects and complexities of interior design it is important to establish a critical dialogue between each student and tutor taking into consideration the different cultural and educational backgrounds of the student body. Through examples and explanations of the tutor's own design position and the routes he or she has taken in pursuing innovative design ideas and concepts, the student is guided towards a more autonomous and self critical approach in problem solving. This must be supported by reflective, context specific research capturing the essence of all accumulated facts in order to solve tasks in a creative and responsible manner.
