I have taught at AIU since 1995 and have a background in the UK system having taught at the University of Westminster. I received my doctorate from the University of Kent at Canterbury earned my MA and MPhil from the University of Reading.
I consider myself a Political Economist in the Classical tradition. My overall intellectual formation has been informed by a much broader framework than that provided by the neo-classical and/or Keynesian orthodoxies which dominate the academies. Initially it was the civil rights movement, the anti-war movement and the fight for women's rights. And it has been around similar themes that I have remained politically active to this day. As such my research has focused on attempting to come to grips with the dynamics of world capitalism today. Accordingly in the most recent period I have written papers on: The Downward Curve of Capitalist Development; The Demise of Ungentlemanly Capitalism: Britain in the New World Order; Imperialism Today: a Riposte to "The New Imperialism"; Are the Transition Economies Capitalist?; and most recently: From Credit Crunch to Depression.
I am systemising my offerings into a book. But in the face of inevitable time constraints, teaching more often wins out. I was named Educator of the Year in 2005 having previously been presented with Outstanding Educational Achievement award in 2003.
I cycle to the university every day - come rain or shine. I am a keen squash player. And I love fine wines.
