Meet Uzma Irfan
Bachelor of Business Administration
Getting Exposure-and the Skills She Needs
Uzma Irfan appreciates the knowledge she's gaining at American InterContinental University in London, but she realizes a degree is more than book learning. "When I started working (before beginning college), I realized I was lacking not only the knowledge, but also the exposure, the ability to think bigger, and the skills required to do and get the job done. I did not have an understanding of the business environment."
Now nearly finished with her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (with a concentration in Management), Uzma considers herself well-prepared to enter the business world. "The education I'm receiving at AIU has helped me view things in a different light, think critically, and be objective; emotions have no place in the business world. I am now equipped with the business acumen and ready to put the theories I have learned to the test."
Uzma, a native of Bangalore, India, says it is possible to get a job without a college degree-in fact, she herself worked prior to returning to school-but not the best job. "Typically, it won't be a job that will give you fulfillment and excitement."
Although studying Business Administration, Uzma enjoys the fact she can take a variety of classes. AIU London isn't just a business school, but a complete university. "One of the things I like best about AIU is that you get an overall education. Whether your major is business or fashion, you are required to take general electives that enhance your overall understanding of the world." Uzma's favorite class was actually public speaking. "It was great and I'd recommend every student take it sooner rather than later."
"Public speaking was one of my favorites, but all the classes have been very good and have contributed to my overall education, knowledge, and exposure."
