Meet Anne Linn Ose
B.F.A. in Interior Design
Exposing Herself to Opportunity
Anne Linn Ose always had a passion for design. Her home country of Norway has no shortage of design schools, but she wanted to study abroad. London was a natural choice for her because she had already been to the city several times before for language courses and because London offered the chance for her to see firsthand the latest in design. Anne ended up at American InterContinental University in London specifically because of a very helpful Admissions Advisor who answered all her questions in a timely manner and because she liked the school's design curriculum and small class size.
"I believe I have an advantage with choosing a course outside my country. I already see the benefits back in Norway, where my degree stands out in a CV and interview compared to designers who have taken their degree in Norway."
Anne Linn graduated with a Bachelor's degree in December 2005. Looking back on her time at AIU, Anne Linn says she really enjoyed classes such as AutoCAD, Senior Thesis Design, Portfolio, and Universal. "The last year of my education was the best and my favorite, as I could see everything I had learned come together in great projects."
True to its pledge to prepare students to enter the workforce, AIU requires senior-year students in all majors to take several capstone classes in which they combine and apply all of the knowledge they have been taught in the previous years. It is these capstone classes that Anne Linn, and most AIU London students, especially enjoys.
While Anne Linn would definitely advise students to take advantage of as many of these all-encompassing, final-year courses as possible, she has some advice for prospective students as well: "Think through what getting a degree might do for you. Be active in the process and don't be afraid to ask questions of the admissions advisors, faculty, and current students."
"I believe a college/university education is crucial in these times, as it is an important learning curve for the individual. Street smarts is of course important as well, and I believe a combination of these only makes you more eligible and interesting for a company looking to hire."
